You Are Called To Stand Up, Even If You Are Standing Alone

If God has called you to it. Do it.

Do it alone.

Do it afraid.

Do it even if your family disagrees.

Do it even if it terrifies you.

Because impossible things happen because God makes them possible.

What are you waiting for? A sign from the heavens? That ache inside you in sign enough. A move of God? Trust me, he’s already moving.

WE MISS SO MUCH! Because we simply wait. We lean into “be still” and ignore the call “to do”.

The heartbeat of Love is action. Love is action. And I even daresay Love cannot exist without action.

It is in the doing, that we change the world.

When I say, “Go and do it anyway.” I’m saying that God already gave you mandates: care for the poor and the orphaned and widow; fight against injustice; proclaim the gospel; worship; love others the way you want to be loved; relentlessly throw all of who you are at the feet of Jesus.

You don’t have to WAIT to do any of this. You are already called to do these things!!

And I’m not gonna dedicate half of this post to giving examples of all the ways you might let God use you. Because, you know what? If you have the Holy Spirit…and you are already leaning into Him…then may I be so bold as to say that you already know.

Don’t make exceptions for yourself. Don’t make excuses. Just go and do the actual thing that God is asking of you.

When did so many Christians lose the inability to boldly call out injustice within their own homes?

How are we more comfortable with confronting social justice issues while people inside our own families are battling eating disorders and committing suicide and injecting themselves with heroin?

Loving someone doesn’t mean you don’t confront their pain. Loving someone doesn’t mean you pretend every Christmas and Easter and Birthday that everything is fine. Loving someone doesn’t mean you overlook someone’s self destruction. And it sure as hell doesn’t mean that you don’t stand up for yourself.

You want to do something hard and holy? Go and love your family with so much truth that you cannot help but speak it out loud.

Speak up even if it means you are the only one left standing.

I’ve seen my family tip-toe around pain and suffering and sin and brokenness for three decades. I’ve seen my family F A L L apart. I’ve seen abortion and teen pregnancy, eating disorders, self harm and self hate and suicide, children who have sex with adults and adults who do nothing about it, children who claim sexual assaults and adults who do nothing about it, children who say they want to die and adults who whisper behind closed doors about it but never actually do anything; adults who repeatedly shame and demean their children.

The hardest part is…you can’t make someone change.

So…you’re going to have to be willing to stand alone when you finally do stand up.

When you stand up and say, “I’m not gonna watch you do this to yourself.” Be ready to stand alone.

When you stand up and say, “You can’t manipulate me.” Be ready to stand alone.

And when you stand up and say, “Do your worst.” Be absolutely ready to stand alone.

You are going to make mistakes. That’s not the point. Leading anything is risking failure. But aren’t our homes, our families, our children worth the risk?

If someone truly loves you and values you, they will listen to you even if it is hard. Because they will know you are speaking from a place of love.

If love can hold a stranger while they die, then love is strong enough to change your family.

If love can risk everything to hide away Jewish children and refuse to purchase human lives, then love is strong enough to change your family.

If love can overlook the filth of a slum. If love can choose to love for a lifetime. If love can travel into jungles and across mountains and down into the ditches of human waste, then love is enough.

LOVE does all these things every day.

You want to change the world? Go home and love you family. Be bold. Love the broken. Call out evil every single time. Report abuse, don’t hide it. Fight for the children who cannot fight for themselves. Don’t make excuses for sinful, shameful actions.

DON’T CONFUSE LOVE WITH COWARDICE. Love stands up to fight. Cowards walk away. Love risks everything to see truth and justice thrive. Cowardice hides away and then talks about the sadness of it all behind closed doors.

Don’t be a coward.

If God has called you to it. Do it.

Do it alone.

Do it afraid.

Do it even if your family disagrees.

Do it even if it terrifies you.

Because the God of the impossible is inside of you.

And I can promise you that that is enough.

There are several religious people who say Christians may not be involved in politics or even may not go to bring out their vote.

In Belgium voting is compulsory, and not going to the ballot station is a criminal offence, as such each Belgian is expected to have his say and foreign residents in Belgium, are welcome also to give their voice so that there can be worked at a democratic country, where everybody can have his say.

This month and especially on the 26th of May each resident of Belgium and those living in the European Union, should think about what they want to do and what position they want to take in this world.

Everybody should know that there are animals and plants plus enough people who have no voice and that it is important that people come up for them.
